We’ve seen a significant rise in complaints from members of the public about so-called ‘No Win No Fee’ sales appointments carried out in people’s homes.
In practice, there is often no win – and there is almost always a fee to relinquish. In many cases we’ve reviewed, the “relinquishment” appears to be only a notification sent by an intermediary company, with no confirmation from the resort.
Having a salesperson come to your home can feel convenient, especially when it starts with an unsolicited phone call offering a “free” home visit. But an in-home appointment can also create a false sense of security: you feel relaxed on your own territory, rather than being on guard in a sales office.
We have heard horror stories of people being subjected to up to six hours of high-pressure selling in their own living room. Before agreeing to any home appointment or signing anything, make sure you understand your doorstep selling rights, including the cooling-off period. Please know your rights on doorstep selling – you can read the regulations here.
